This summer I drove down from Seattle to LA by myself via Highway 101 and Highway 1. The entire trip took 10 days and was a great way to experience the Oregon and California coast. Along the way, I drove by scenic stops, ate tacos, and did some moderate hiking.
I'd like to put in a plug for the AMC's Spring Hiking Program. I really enjoyed this program in 2014. It helped me launch into the Leadership Program with AMC! I met some great people, learned important skills, and went on fun adventures. Best of all, you don't need a car to go hiking - participants are very eager to carpool.
What: Lonesome Lake Hut is a beautiful Appalachian Mountain Club hut located in Franconia Notch. There is a main dining room filled with games, and several bunk cabins (not-heated). No dogs allowed unfortunately.

I just finished a week-long road trip down Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula in search of cenotes. We flew into Cancun Airport and slowly made our way down to the fashion hub of Tulum. There are rumored to be 30,000 cenotes in the area, but not all of them are made available to the public.
Goals for the trip
Last week, I headed out to Grand Teton National Park for a week of solo hiking (Monday - Friday). When I booked my trip, the first thing I did was plan my hikes and food stops. Unfortunately this was very last minute, and I couldn't secure backcountry permits for the Teton Crest Trail (although you can show up to the Visitor's Center the morning of). I'm also not sure I would do it as a solo hiker since my experience with bears is very limited.
My main goal was to see some beautiful scenery. Second goal was to see some wildlife. Of course beneath it all, I wanted to be safe and bear aware.
