WHY HIKE MOLLY’s TRAIL TO LANDMINE LOOP

I like to hike Molly’s Trail when I’m looking for a super short walk, usually first thing in the morning or for a sunset walk after dinner. It’s a perfect little trail and feels almost like a neighborhood stroll rather than a real hike.

Molly’s Trail is also great if you are hoping to run into some wildlife! There are burros and even the elusive desert tortoise (I’ve never seen the tortoise, unfortunately). We saw the burros once we finished our loop and they were super cute!

If you are looking for other hikes in Red Rocks, check out another one of my favorites South Oak Creek Trail.

WHEN TO HIKE Molly’s Trail

Molly’s Trail near Red Rocks can be hiked year round like most hikes in Las Vegas, but I prefer to not hike in the middle of the day in the summer. If I am hiking in the summer, I will go either early in the morning or later at night.

Because it is the desert, there is not a lot of shade.

MOLLY’s TRAIL – TRAIL NOTES

The trail starts at a makeshift parking lot in a semi-neighborhood. Use Google Maps to find the trailhead and then head left. The trail is fairly easy to follow from here and doesn’t have too much elevation.

As you hook around, you will see some beautiful views of the surrounding Vegas area! The entire trail is fairly easy and can be done in sneakers, not hiking boots. It’s truly a super relaxing trail and the dogs will love it.

Keep an eye out for the desert tortoise if you are lucky and of course the burros! You will see some of their poop unfortunately so be careful for that too.

Recommended Gear

See below for some of my recommended gear for this hike. I recommend bringing 1-2L of water for this hike, depending on the temperature and your hiking speed.
